Lucy
by Damien Atkins; Directed by Cindy Schneider
Lucy is a 13-year-old girl diagnosed with autism. Her parents have been long divorced, and she has been raised primarily by her loving and nurturing father. Lucy's mom, Vivian, is a renowned and career-driven anthropologist, who is completely focused on her life's work. Things change when her ex shows up and requests that Vivian take Lucy for an undetermined period of time, while he and his new wife honeymoon, and settle into a new life. Vivian is not a nurturer, and is happiest when left in solitude with minimal interaction, so this transition is quite a challenge for her. We see Vivian's journey of self-discovery, while also being privy to Lucy's "unspoken" perceptions of her world.
Rated PG-13: Contains some adult themes.
