The Miser
by Moliere; Directed by Scott Ryan
Harpagon, a wealthy and greedy moneylender, wishes his daughter Élise to marry a wealthy old man, Anselme, who will accept her without a dowry; but she loves Valère, Harpagon's steward. Harpagon himself has set his eye on young, impoverished Mariane, who is in love with and is loved by Harpagon's son Cléante. Harpagon starves his servants, declines to pay them, and even cheats his own children if he can save (or make) a few coins. When his hoard of gold disappears, he insanely accuses everyone, including himself, of being the thief.
Show guidance: The Miser contains some adult themes. We would consider it a comparable to a movie with a PG rating.
