A Year with Frog and Toad

Holiday Show 2017

by Willie & Robert Reale; Directed by Deborah Young

Waking from hibernation in the Spring, Frog and Toad plant gardens, swim, rake leaves, go sledding, and learn life lessons along the way. The two best friends celebrate and rejoice in the differences that make them unique and special. Part vaudeville, part make believe. . . all charm, A Year with Frog and Toad tells the story of a friendship that endures throughout the seasons.

  • Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at 6:00 PM
  • Thursday, September 14, 2017 at 6:00 PM - Callbacks

You only need to attend one of the above audition sessions in order to be considered. No appointments are necessary. You should plan to spend about 2 hours at the theater for auditions (perhaps a little more or less, depending on turnout).

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script, singing a prepared 45-second selection of a song that showcases your voice in style of this show (not from this show) with provided accompanist, and improvisational games. There will be a short dance audition so dress comfortably. Headshot and resume are not required.

If you have any questions about auditions, you may e-mail the director at Debbie_young@comcast.net

Cast requirements:
The production staff of A Year with Frog and Toad seeks up to 20 actors, ages 8 and up, to be cast in a gender blind, age blind format. We will cast the characters of Frog and Toad as either 2 men or 2 women, depending on turnout. The two will be cast in approximately the same age range. The three Birds will be cast in the same age range as well. Although the play is traditionally cast with 5-6 actors, we will open the casting to as many as 20, including a seasonal ensemble. No actors younger than 8 may audition.

Character Descriptions:
FROG: Caring and loyal. Always looking out for his friends. The calmer, more zen of both he and Toad. Simultaneously adventurous and assured.

TOAD: A hard worker, but impatient for results. Self-conscious. Stubborn. A good friend to Frog. Timid.

Additional characters include narrating Birds, a determined Snail, a bullying Turtle, mischievous Squirrels and sleepy Moles.

Rehearsals for A Year with Frog and Toad will be on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoons, beginning on September 17. Rehearsals will be on Sunday afternoons for children! Tech rehearsals will be held on November 26-29. Please bring a list of any conflicts you may have to auditions.

There is a possibility of adding matinees on either or both December 2 and 9.
