Opportunities for Youth
The Barley Sheaf Players proudly offer many opportunities for children and teens to participate actively in the vibrant world of community theater. In addition to our annual teen and children's shows, which take place in the summer, we frequently feature shows with parts for young people in our regular season. Our annual Holiday Show, which performs in December, almost always has parts for children and teens, too.
Annual Opportunities
Summer Teen Show
This year's Teen Show is
Zombie Prom. Audition information is on the show page.
Our annual summer Teen Show is a great experience for middle-school and high-school kids ages 13 to 19 at the time of auditions. Teens are invited to audition for acting parts or to sign up for production staff if they aren't interested in being on stage or if they aren't cast in a role. As well as being onstage, teens have served as stage managers, stage crew, costumers, choreographers, musical accompanists, assistant directors, assistant producers, and more.
Membership in Barley Sheaf is required for any teen who is cast or wishes to participate in the production. The teen membership is $17.50 for the year. A mandatory $35 participation fee is also required, as well as a refundable $25 security deposit for vocal books and librettos that will need to be returned to the publisher. Please do not let the cost of the membership fee, participation fee, or security deposit deter your teen from participating. Should the cost be a financial hardship, you or your teen just needs to speak confidentially with the director or producer.
Summer Children's Show
This year's Children's Show is
The Emperor's New Clothes. Audition information is on the show page.
Our annual summer Children's Show is a great experience for kids ages 7 to 13. The show usually addresses a familiar theme in a child's life. Kids learn all aspects of creative dramatic arts and—most importantly—have great fun doing it!
Membership in Barley Sheaf is required for any child who participates in the production. The youth membership is $8.75 for the year for kids 12 and under, $17.50 for older kids. A mandatory $35 participation fee is also required. Please do not let the cost of the membership fee or participation fee deter your child from participating. Should the cost be a financial hardship, you just need to speak confidentially with the director or producer.
